What Does It Mean To Be Perfect?

Just wondering, is there anyone out there who has not committed sin since they received Jesus as Lord and Saviour and were born again? Is there anyone out there who is perfect? What does it really men to be perfect?

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:43-48, NKJV)

Jesus referred to a common attitude amongst the Jews during the Sermon on the Mount. The people practiced love for their neighbours and hatred for their enemies. From a human perspective, it sounded logical and sensible but Jesus pointed to God's irrevocable standard, a higher standard than what the people were used to. Loving our enemies is what we are called to; it is humbling because to love one's enemies, one has to forsake pride and the desire for revenge. That is not easy, human speaking. Hating our enemies makes us no different from unbelievers. Loving our enemies is a portrayal of God's perfection - He loves everybody without exception which is why people are free to make their own choices even when those choices have adverse consequences.

"And this, so that I may know Him [experientially, becoming more thoroughly acquainted with Him, understanding the remarkable wonders of His Person more completely] and [in that same way experience] the power of His resurrection [which overflows and is active in believers], and [that I may share] the fellowship of His sufferings, by being continually conformed [inwardly into His likeness even] to His death [dying as He did]; so that I may attain to the resurrection [that will raise me] from the dead. Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own." (Philippians 3:10-12, AMP)

Apostle Paul was a great man of God. He surrendered totally to God and yearned to know more of God and the power of His resurrection. May God help us to have such a longing for God - a longing to fear Him and keep His commandments. After serving God faithfully for decades, Apostle Paul was not satisfied with past testimonies. He wanted a NOW testimony; he longed to experience the power of God, the revelation of God and the wisdom to preach the Gospel. Interestingly, Paul was to say, 'Not that I have already obtained it or have already been made perfect'. That did not disqualify him because his heart was in the right place; he loved God unconditionally; he was ready to be killed for the sake of the Gospel; he had no agenda of his own. You see, we are not perfect but we strive towards perfection. Our imperfections are not an excuse for sinning.

"If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (1 John 1:6-10, NKJV)

The Epistle of John was written to Christians not unbelievers. Basically they were informed that there is a tendency for us to miss the mark. That is not to say the sacrifice and atonement of Jesus was incomplete or imperfect. Jesus cried out on the cross of Calvary that His work of redemption was finished. Anyone who repents and receives Jesus as Lord and Saviour will be saved. When we sin (as we shall from time to time), there is no condemnation, our consciences prick us and we run to God in repentance. The Christian life starts with repentance and ends with repentance. The Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin when we confess our sins. We receive forgiveness, are refreshed and restored to continue the race in front of us.

What does this all mean? The Greek word for 'perfect' in Matthew 5:48 is 'teleios' meaning 'having reached its end, complete'. It also conveys the idea of maturity. Sinless perfection is a trait that belongs only to God. He makes no mistakes, is perfect in all His ways, knows the beginning from the end and vice versa; He is pure, no blemish or stain. Our God is awesome and holy. Prophet Isaiah beheld a vision of the Lord:

"In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw [in a vision] the Lord sitting on a throne, high and exalted, with the train of His royal robe filling the [most holy part of the] temple. Above Him seraphim (heavenly beings) stood; each one had six wings: with two wings he covered his face, with two wings he covered his feet, and with two wings he flew. And one called out to another, saying,
“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is filled with His glory.” (Isaiah 6:1-3, AMP).

When he saw this, he cried out "Woe is me! For I am ruined, because I am a man of [ceremonially] unclean lips,..." (Isaiah 6:5, AMP). The holiness of God, His purity, perfection, power, and omniscience should draw us to our knees before Him. Jesus said, "...for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 18:14). God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). You see, a prerequisite for spiritual maturity starts is humility. As we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, we realise that all that we have is given to us by God and to be perfect in God's sight, we must let go and let God have His way.

Perfection for Christians is about the condition of the heart and not an absence of sin. About Noah, the Bible says, "Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God." (Genesis 6:9). Noah was later to drink wine and get drunk and lay naked - a clear error of judgement and a sin in God's sight. Moses was the meekest man on earth but he missed Canaan because his anger at the sin of Israel led him to dishonour God (Number 20:10-12). Apostle Peter engaged in hypocrisy and Apostle Paul rebuked him (Galatians 2:11-12). Thomas doubted Jesus (John 20: 24-29).

Recognising our imperfections helps us not to be legalistic, bombastic, lacking in compassion. It helps us to run to God in humility, to minister in humility, to serve in humility and to see everyone as a potential Christian.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. " (John 3:16)

The Dynamics of Change

"So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:11)

"For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob." (Malachi 3:6)

Life involves changes. Some changes are short-term while others are long-term and still others are permanent. Some changes are to be expected or anticipated while others are unforeseen, humanly speaking. In 2020, there have been lots of changes brought about by COVID-19. The virus was unexpected and the ensuing changes unprecedented. In that context, life will never again be the same. Many families, communities and all nations have experienced tragedy on a scale that was previously unthinkable. It's as if change was dumped on us without an input from us; all we could do was to react to change. We thank God for the opportunity to react, the result of which has mitigated some of the effects. But we are still some way from the final solution. The consequent swing (change) in economies, standard of living, business practices and fortunes, public interactions and restrictions, travel rules and regulations, immigration policies, academic calendars, etc. have dumbfounded the multitude. We have experienced unbelievable and unprecedented change.

As we approach 2021, it is fair to say that many individuals are evaluating 2020 and anticipating change in 2021. Some individuals are planning to make changes for the better in specific areas while others are bracing themselves for unforeseen changes. Whichever way one looks at the situation, changes (expected, anticipated or unforeseen) will determine what decisions people make, whether good or bad. Talk about the dynamics of change! Mind-boggling experience!!

A new year is around the corner. We have all added one year to our age, drawing us closer to our expiry date. Change is all around us. Governments come and go; technological advancements usher in the development of new appliances, gadgets, educational methods and procedures, fashion, culture, etc. In a sense, change is inevitable. Yet, not everything changes. Some things are unchangeable. One thing that will not change is change itself.

In the midst of change, there is constancy, unchangeability, predictability, assurance and certainty. Sounds like some science fiction theory, right? How can there be permanence or predictability in chaos? It is simple but profound. The answer is GOD. Unchangeability belongs to God. God never changes and consequently His Word is not only truth but immutable. Jesus, God the Son, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." (Matthew 24:35)

God said that His Word will not return to Him void but will accomplish what He pleases, prospering in what He has sent it forth. With God, change is not part of His vocabulary. Don't you think it is a good idea to be on God's side? He will not flip-flop like the politicians; He will not give excuses; He will accomplish what He has promised; He will hear and answer our prayers; He will never fail. God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9).

While it is reasonable to expect change in 2021 and not to put our hope in temporary things and situations, it is advisable for us to look up to the Unchangeable One - our God of all creation, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. He is the Creator of the universe, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. He is GOD, the great I AM THAT I AM. He is the essence of life, the meaning to earthly existence, Reason for Christmas, the Architect of the space and planets. He is indescribable, incomprehensible, invincible and untameable, uncontainable, unchangeable, incomparable, unfathomable and the list goes on. He is Jehovah and truly amazing. Will you trust Him today?

The Bible says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)

There is a record in the Bible of Jesus commanding the storm to be still. "And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:37-41)

Jesus was asleep on a pillow while there was a great windstorm around the boat He was in. Talk about having full control! The disciples were afraid. The devil can use uncertainty to generate fear. In the boat, Jesus, the Son of God and God the Son was in control. He simply awoke and rebuked the storm. He can rebuke the storms in your life today. Call on Him and He will answer. You don't have to fear change, uncertainty, or the storms of life. Jesus can and will see you through if you allow Him. So, in the midst of all sorts of changes, victory is sure in 2021, if you surrender all to God. It is my prayer that you would be encouraged to walk by faith and not by sight in 2021.

Have a blessed day.

The Implications of Christmas

"And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:9-10, ESV)

It is a historical fact that Jesus was born on earth, in Bethlehem in a manger. He lived for about 33 years, was crucified, buried and He rose from the dead and after 40 days ascended into Heaven.  At this time every year, Christmas is celebrated. Many unbelievers hate the word Christmas but enjoy the holiday associated with it. In many circles, the phrase Merry Christmas has been changed to Happy Holidays. It is unfortunate and an error of judgement. Noone, no government can delete the birth of Jesus from the anals of history. Jesus, although born in a manger in Bethlehem, changed the world forever. The time of his birth has became a reference point, either as B.C. or A.D. In order to put events into a time context, their occurrences are either classified as happening before Christ (B.C.) or after Christ (A.D.). Interesting, isn't it!

The angel Gabriel announced the conception and birth of Jesus to Mary (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-38). Joseph the husband of Mary was told in a dream "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Jesus was to reiterate this divine mission - the salvation of mankind and His commitment to it. Since the incarnation of Jesus and His consequent death and resurrection, billions of individuals have surrendered their lives to Jesus. The importance of Christmas in the history of mankind cannot be overemphasized. Are you born again? Have you taken advantage of the birth of Jesus? Jesus is the only Way, the Truth and the Life. In Him is life. He said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live." (John 11:25). Belief in Jesus propels you to a life of joy, peace and hope, such as the world cannot give you. Belief in Jesus prepares you for eternity. Remember there are two destinations after death, either Heaven or hell. The Bible states, "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment," (Hebrews 9:27). Jesus said further, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. (John 6:47)

Refusal to believe in Jesus is an individual's right but an exercise of that right has consequences, consequences that are eternal and horrendous. Many ask the question, How can a good and kind God send someone to hell?' It's like asking why God would allow someone who deliberately walks on the path of an oncoming train to be killed. The power of choice (freewill) is one that God will never interfere with. We all have rights to do what we want, but we must be prepared to face consequences. The Bible says, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7). Hell was created for Satan and his demons, a place of eternal and unimaginable punishment from which there is no escape. Such a place is what the devil deserves given all the evil he has perpetrated. In hell, there is no presence of God, so the place is without Light and in total darkness (both physical and spiritual). When an individual decides to disregard the Word of God, the ways of God, and the commandments of God, such an individual literally rejects God and invariably sides with the devil. Consequently such an individual deserves what the devil gets. It's that straightforward.

Christmas has powerful connotations for the believer and the nonbeliever. The implications of Christmas should be clearly understood otherwise its celebration becomes a meaningless venture. Jesus is the Reason for the season. Without Jesus, Christmas is a waste of time, an exercise in futility and folly. Would you take a step back to examine yourself? Are you on the right track or have you veered off the track, travelling on the road to hell? Hell is not a pleasant place. Someone once said, 'If you miss Heaven, you cannot miss hell.'

I once read about black holes which are the result of collapsed stars. A black hole has an incredibly high gravitational pull, thereby sucking anything (even electromagnetic radiation) into the hole. Once in the hole the object is compressed into a microscopic object (a tiny space) and cannot get out of the hole. While individuals will not be obliterated in hell in that sense, escape from hell is impossible. There are no second chances. Please do not put yourself on the path of hell; today is your day of decision. Surrender your life to Jesus and He will save you from eternal damnation. He will bless you with life everlasting and the joy and peace of God will be your portion in Jesus' Name. Moreover, eternal bliss in Heaven will be your portion.

Christmas brings memories of God's awesome generosity, the giving of His only begotten Son, Jesus to save mankind. You can be a beneficiary of that wonderful gift today. Jesus is waiting for you today. Call on Him and you will not be disappointed, for He will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).
For those who are already believers, this Christmas season can be a time for rededication to Jesus. What do you say? Have a blessed Christmas.

WHAT ARE YOU HEARING?

"Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:11-13, NKJV)

An amazing story! Elijah the prophet who single-handedly stood up against 450 prophets of Baal, was on the run. He had been threatened by Jezebel the idolater, agent of the devil and wife of King Ahab. Through all his positive and negative experiences, he still had the discernment to recognise the voice of the Lord. Come to think of it, how many of us would have felt that God was speaking through the wind? For many of us, the earthquake would have been equivalent to an incontrovertible sign of God's presence. Remember that Elijah had called down fire from Heaven to consume the sacrifice he presented to God during his encounter with the false prophets of Baal. Many people would have concluded that the presence of fire was a clear sign of God's presence. But God was in none of these.
Would you be able to recognise God's voice if He called? He called Samuel when he was very young and Samuel had to learn through Eli the prophet how to not only recognise His voice but also how to respond to it.

"Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord , nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.) And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”" ( 1 Samuel 3:6‭-‬10, NKJV)

Having learned to recognise God's voice, Samuel obeyed God and became a great prophet. You see, it all boils down to discernment, paying attention and obedience. What are you hearing? The sound of the TV or fake news, false prophecy, biased and compromised 'ministration' or preaching, rumours of Christ here and there, etc?

Jesus said that in the last days, “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect." (Matthew 24:23-24)

Many will be deceived in the last days which are upon us right now. They will be deceived because they will be distracted by the strong winds, earthquakes, fire or other natural phenomena. They will be deceived by what they listen to, what they watch, the sort of company they keep, and the devil. What are you hearing? Is what you are hearing pointing you towards Jesus or turning your attention away from Him? God is not the author of confusion and His voice can be heard above the sounds and noises all around us. That is, if you listen.

Hearing the still small voice of God takes genuine desire and deliberate effort. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27). It can be said that to hear God's voice, one must be like sheep, ready to be led and to follow without hesitation. Are you willing to be led or do you want to do your own thing? To hear God's voice, you must eliminate other voices via understanding His Word and taking heed to it. At Mount Carmel, the children of Israel were undecided hanging between two opinions. Elijah was literally on his own when he faced the false prophets of Baal. An individual who does not hear from God has a very high chance of being undecided and confused with regards to the issues of life. Elijah heard from God and challenged the 450 false prophets and emerged victorious to the glory of God. Elijah was a warrior. Are you a fighter, fighting the good fight of faith or are you relenting your efforts having absorbed false news? You see, false news did not start with the News Media, it started with Satan. What you hear is either the truth or false news. Interesting, right?

Knowing what to listen to is something every child of God has to learn, cultivate by way of constant practice. It is a continuous process of verification because not only are there lots of voices but new voices arise each day. Unless one is really walking in the Spirit, it is easy to be deceived. The devil is an expert at disguise. How do you think he was able to deceive Eve? The desire for the spectacular, the quest for the unjustifiable, the reckless yearning to be on the edge, the innate characteristics of pride, the inordinate longing for satisfaction of the flesh, the pursuit of pleasure at the expense of life and more blinded the spiritual eyes of Eve. She yielded to the deceptively mild tone of the devil,  underestimating the cunning of the devil and somehow thinking that he was on her side. May God deliver us from inappropriate actions which consequently lead to unnecessary suffering, in the Name of Jesus.

So, even in his distress, Elijah recognised the voice of God. What a great lesson!!. Don’t allow your situation to propel you into insensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Don’t forget that God is with you and that if He allows you to experience some hardship, there is a reason. Do not allow your challenges to weigh you down. Remember God is always with you and He always desires to speak to you. God spoke to Elijah as he stood at the entrance of the cave and gave him specific instructions.

"...anoint Hazael as king over Syria. Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place." (1 Kings 19:15-16)

These instructions were delivered at a specific place at an appropriate time. Many have missed the Word of the Lord because they have been gallivanting all over the place. Although God is omnipresent, there are circumstances under which He will speak. At certain locations, only certain words can be spoken. Christians have missed the Word of the Lord because they refused to go to church or do something that God asked them to. Elijah's instructions from God came at the entrance to the cave not at Mount Carmel where he had an encounter with the 450 prophets of Baal. Do you get the point? When and where you receive your next instruction will depend on whether you are obeying God right now. Sometimes our disobedience will delay the next set of instructions, leaving us in a spiritual limbo that in realistic terms would be self-imposed.

What you hear is a function of what you are listening to.  In Psalm 81:13, God said "Oh, that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!"

If you want to hear right, you must pay attention to the Word of God. Read it, study it, meditate on it day and night and you shall be prosperous and have good success (Joshua 1:8)

May the good Lord grant you grace and wisdom to heed His Word in Jesus' Name.

WILL YOU RELENT...?

"Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power or by what name have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.” So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:1-19, NKJV)

A definition of the word relent is 'become less severe or intense.' Think back to when you were born again. Have things changed? Has your zeal waned? Are you still on fire for Jesus or have you become spiritually tame (if there is anything like that) or fruitless? Do you have a thriving relationship with Jesus or are you going through the motions? For those of us who claim to speak in tongues, are you speaking a heavenly language or some mumbo-jumbo like kawasaki, kawasaki, suzuki, suzuki, honda, honda?

We may not want to hear this but unfortunately, it is a reality. We have millions of churches worldwide but the Church's influence is reducing or being compromised. We have the Word of Life but our utterances lack conviction. We have direct access to God but very often we speak like people without authority. We have been called to be ambassadors for Jesus Christ but we often appear to be self-serving. We profess to be people of faith but our belief system is tied to material and temporal acquisitions. We are quick to believe for cars, houses, money in the bank but not for souls that are ravished by the enemy, Satan. We spend hours in front of a TV but can hardly find time to pray or study the Word of God. We are quick to voice out the fact that God forgives but we are plagued by besetting sin and involved in a self-indulgence cycle. Yet, the Word of God states that without holiness no one shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

These are uncomfortable truths. What would you have done if you were in the shoes of Peter and John? These men were bold even though they were perceived to be uneducated and untrained. Hmm. Untrained in what? They were untrained in the things of the world but trained by the Holy Spirit to preach the Word of God without fear or favour. They did not go out searching for pulpits and sanctuaries, they were out there in the midst of the unsaved preaching the Gospel. The Sadducees realized they had been with Jesus. Have you been with Jesus today? What did He say to you? Did He tell you to ignore the unbelievers or to preach the Gospel to all creatures as found in Mark 16:15?

Peter and John had decided long before the encounter with the lame man that they were going to be sold out for Jesus. They had forsaken their earthly professions, and left everything to follow Jesus. As far as they were concerned, they had nothing to lose but everything to gain. Is that how you see it? Many Christians today cannot bear the thought of forsaking all to follow Jesus. They think that standard was for first century believers and that these days we have to be more sophisticated (whatever that means), more 'reserved' and less assertive. The last time I checked assertive means 'having or showing a confident and forceful personality.' This is opposed to being aggressive which means 'ready or likely to attack or confront; characterized by or resulting from aggression.' Let us not forget that Jesus said,

"... whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:33)

Would we say that the Mainstream Media (MSM) is tame and relenting? Are we not bombarded with all sorts of rubbish through media outlets, Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, TV, etc? Why should we shy away from sharing the Good News? If we found someone drowning and we could save the person, what attitude would we have? Assertiveness is a positive trait whereas aggression is to be avoided. Jesus was assertive, the disciples were assertive, the prophets of old were assertive, Apostle Paul was assertive. That is why Apostle Paul wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

"For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!" (1 Corinthians 9:16)

Apostle Paul, Peter and John had no Option B. There was only one way forward - preaching of the Gospel with signs following in obedience of the commands of Jesus. They woke up each day with a deliberate resolve to win souls, to preach the Gospel, to make known the salvation of God through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. They were not apologetic about their beliefs, did not relent their efforts, were not mindful of what people thought or said. Their ultimate goal was to please God. Is that your goal?

Isn't it sad that the one thing we can all engage in is the very thing that most of us shy away from? Oh yes, we can talk about shoes, cars, houses, football (both American and British), food, politics, economics, academics, etc. for hours but are uncomfortable sharing our faith with others. So, the questions arises, what do we really believe? Who do we believe? Do we believe in the same Jesus that the early Christians believed in and were ready and willing to die for? Why don't we talk about these things in our churches? WHAT IS GOING ON?

Apostles Peter and John proclaimed, 'Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” That name is JESUS and at His Name every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11). Even though they were threatened with dire consequences, they did not keep their mouths shut. You see, that is God's standard. Some people call it foolishness, others call it gross irresponsibility, still others dismiss it as evidence of mental or psychological dysfunctionality. I would rather be a foolish man in the house of the Lord than a wise man in the palace of a king. The Bible says,
'... the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.' (1 Corinthians 1:25)

The real foolishness is in being passive, being ashamed of the Gospel and wasting one's life on things that are temporal. May God help us to give of ourselves wholeheartedly to the work of God knowing that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). The way forward is abiding in Jesus (John 15:1-5), letting go and letting God have His way.

May you have a blessed day in the Lord.

ON THE SHORES OF FAITH ...

From Adam to Abraham to Isaac to Jacob to Noah to the prophets of old to the disciples of Jesus and then to us in the 21st century, God has been moving among ordinary men. He has always sought to use men and women for His plans and purposes. In the Bible, we read of individuals who surrendered their lives to God who did exploits for God in one way or the other. Interestingly, as we read about them in Scripture, we are not really interested in how much money they had, how many houses they built, how many animals they acquired. No, we are more concerned about their walk with God. Thousands of years after their demise, we are still studying their footprints on the shores of faith. We learn lessons about their lifestyles, their dedication to God, the mistakes they made, their faith and the extraordinary focus they had. They were, like, Abraham, looking for a city whose architect and builder is God. Is that your focus?

"But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him. By faith [with confidence in God and His word] Noah, being warned by God about events not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his family. By this [act of obedience] he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which comes by faith.
"By faith Abraham, when he was called [by God], obeyed by going to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went, not knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as a foreigner in the promised land, as in a strange land, living in tents [as nomads] with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs of the same promise. For he was [waiting expectantly and confidently] looking forward to the city which has foundations, [an eternal, heavenly city] whose architect and builder is God. By faith even Sarah herself received the ability to conceive [a child], even [when she was long] past the normal age for it, because she considered Him who had given her the promise to be reliable and true [to His word]. So from one man, though he was [physically] as good as dead, were born as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand on the seashore. All these died in faith [guided and sustained by it], without receiving the [tangible fulfillment of God’s] promises, only having seen (anticipated) them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth." (Hebrews 11:6-13, AMP)

These men and women of faith lived as pilgrims here on earth, acknowledging the brevity of life, and pursuing God with fervency. Moses wanted to see God, Abraham obeyed God and interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah. Ruth said, 'Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried..' (Ruth 1:17). David dared Goliath to come after him but instead of walking away ran towards him with a sling and five stones, eventually defeating Goliath (1 Samuel 17). Joshua led the children of Israel around the city of Jericho and then into the city, capturing Jericho (Joshua 6). Stephen proclaimed God's Word with holy boldness whilst facing death by stoning and when death came, was gracious enough to ask God to forgive his murderers. That was a demonstration of fearless faith. Actually, faith and fear do not go hand in hand. Apostle Paul stood before Festus and King Agrippa pouring out his soul, in an effort to give his testimony of salvation. It was such a spectacular demonstration of Holy Spirit boldness that Festus shouted, 'Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!' (Acts 26)
These were radicals who turned the world upside down. They were a firebrand group of individuals, sold out for the Lord, and holding nothing of this earth too dear. They realized how short life is, dedicated their lives to God with total abandon and ministered with the fire of God. Don't you want to feel that way?

No wonder the Bible states in Hebrews 12:1-2, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, [b]disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]." (AMP)

These are the brothers and sisters in the Lord, who have gone before us. They fought the good fight; they came, they saw and they conquered by the grace of God. Some lost their lives, others were banished to remote islands, whilst others were imprisoned, all for their faith. They did not give up, they did not back down, they refused to be distracted, they kept their eyes on Jesus, and that we can do today. On the shores of faith, we are accommodated; onto the shores of faith we are called; on the shores of faith are footprints of our predecessors, examples for us to remember and to emulate. These constitute the cloud of witnesses, who stripped off every unnecessary weight that sought to tie them down. They wanted to be free of encumbrances, or of anything that would prevent them from doing the will of God.

We tread those same shores of faith today. We are called as ambassadors for Christ to preach the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in increasingly hostile environments (2 Corinthians 5:20). None of us came to this world accidentally; we are on earth to fight the good fight of faith. Victory is assured because God is with us. We have a unique opportunity to leave footprints of the shores of faith. Will you embark upon the journey enthusiastically? Will you let go and let God? Here are the conditions of service:

“If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life [in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God]—he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow after Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me] cannot be My disciple. ... So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not [carefully consider the cost and then for My sake] give up all his own possessions" (Luke 14: 26-27, 33, AMP)

We are chosen by the Almighty God and that should be considered an honor. We are blessed and highly favored and God is on our side. The path is narrow and difficult (Matthew 7:13-14) but we can rest assured that, like the cloud of witnesses, we are running a winning race and fighting a good fight. Be strong and courageous; trust in God, acknowledge Him in all your ways; do not lean on your own understanding and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-7). Let the Holy Spirit guide you day after day and you will keep treading the shores of faith victoriously in the Name of Jesus. Have a blessed day.

Who Am I?

Have you ever wondered who you are or why you are alive? If you are born again, you would be appreciative of God's love and mercy. It is a good thing to reflect on God's graciousness from time to time. You may have been born into a Christian home, with parents who were Christians. Give thanks to God for that. As one who was not so fortunate but who later was saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), I am eternally grateful to God for delivering me from sin and death and I often marvel at the love and compassion of God. Do you? Have you paused to consider where you might be if God had not stretched forth His hand towards you?

The Christian music group, Casting Crowns, wrote a song titled, 'Who Am I?. It's a powerful song and some of its lyrics are shown below:

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart
Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean)
A vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am...
I am Yours, I am Yours
Today is a new day, the day that the LORD Himself has made. To gain an appreciation of His enormous power and might, let's read from the book of Genesis
"In the beginning God (Elohim) created [by forming from nothing] the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good (pleasing, useful) and He affirmed and sustained it; and God separated the light [distinguishing it] from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day ... Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:1-5, 26-28, AMP)

God performed an awesome work, calling things into existence in accordance with His plan. There was no randomness, no off-the cuff actions, no presumptuous actions, or mindless activities. Everything that occurred was orchestrated in an orderly fashion at the highest level of excellence and creativity. It was simply indescribable. Think about it. God created DNA long before the scientists discovered it; He brought into existence countless species of plants and animals: He created the stars, planets and moons; He brought forth the oceans, rives, lakes and streams; He placed the mountains and hills in their positions and He created air (which is not only made up of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide but also inert gases) for us to breathe. Amazing!!
"By volume, dry air contains 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. Air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around 1% at sea level, and 0.4% over the entire atmosphere." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_of_Earth)

God is good and kind and His mercy endures forever (Psalm 138). Without Him we would be doomed. For those who are still rebellious against Him, He is patient towards them just as He was patient towards the people in the time of Noah. He waited 100 years for their repentance, the time it took Noah to build the ark (Genesis 6 and 7).

To the Church in Philadelphia, Jesus said
"I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name." (Revelation 3:8, NKJV)

God knows you by name, after all He created you. He has not changed and He will never change. Even though we are frail, here today gone tomorrow, sometimes tossed to and fro by the waves of life, at times feeling our hearts and minds waver ever so slightly or by leaps and bounds, we belong to God and He is glad to identify with us and be our Father. Incredible!

By His grace we can say with Apostle Paul, "We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body" (2 Corinthians 4:8). Troubles come, tribulations encroach upon us, challenges stretch us but inevitably we are loved with an inexhaustible, unconditional love by God. Hallelujah!! God is colour-blind in the sense that it does not matter whether you are black, white, red, yellow, red or whatever colour you think you are, He is there for you.

Who am I? -  A child of God, washed in the Blood of Jesus, forgiven and saved, a disciple of Jesus, an ambassador for Christ, a minister of the Gospel given the ministry of reconciliation and equipped with the message of reconciliation. All by the grace of God. Who are you?

Nobody is better than you and you are not better than anyone else. The composer of the song, 'Who Am I', sang 'I am Yours, I am Yours'. That is phenomenal. The Bible says

"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

If you  are born again the above passage is true about you. We (you and I) belong to God, the temple of the Holy Spirit, bought with a price - the Blood of Jesus. The devil cannot touch us because God is with us and He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). This is fantabulous. We have our identity in Christ Jesus; once we were lost but now we have been found; once we were darkness but now we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13). We are not accidents or creations of mindless and chaotic events. God created us and knew us before we entered our mothers' wombs. That is to say before your parents met, God has already designed and created you. Really amazing!!

God told Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

You see, you are a vessel of honour in His hands. You may be an apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or teacher with gifts to match. That is great but remember God is your Father and He will never cast you away. Rejoice in Him.  I pray that this would encourage you today. GOD HAS YOUR BACK.

Are You Hot, Cold or Lukewarm?

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’ (Revelation 3:14-22)

In thinking about fruitfulness, it is fair to say that there can be no fruitfulness without discipleship. True discipleship is impacted by one's spiritual condition, whether hot, cold or lukewarmness. Jesus detests lukewarmness.

  1. Introduction:

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth." (Revelation 3:15-16)

That's what the Christians in Laodicea heard. What do you think Jesus would say about you and members of your church?

Apostle John was banished to the island of Patmos for his faith. He suffered greatly but in the midst of the sufferings, came forth a revelation from the Lord. It is said that Apostle John was sent to Patmos after an attempt to kill him in boiling oil failed. Nothing happened to him after he was plunged into the boiling oil.

You may be passing through the valley of the shadow of death, through the fire, experiencing some dire circumstances, wondering where God is in all that. He is not too far away; infact, He is close by reaching out His hand to comfort you in the midst of your tribulation. God is near. Jesus says:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28, MEV)

“Neither cold nor hot … lukewarm. This describes the spiritual condition of the church in Laodicea. The city of Laodicea was a wealthy centre of business and trade. The atmosphere of prosperity had led to spiritual laziness and unconcern in the church. They were no longer “hot” enough spiritually to recognize or respond to the Holy Spirit’s guidance; and they were not quite “cold” enough to realize their need to repent and return to dependence on God." (Fire Bible)

Many Christians believe that the word 'cold' used in Revelation 3:14-22 refers a backslidden state. NOT QUITE SO!! Jesus was okay with the Laodicean Christians being either cold or hot. The word cold is used in the sense of Christians having a refreshing quality. Are you refreshing?

  1. Reference to Cold and Hot:

“Neither cold nor hot: Cold springs are refreshing; hot mineral springs are medicinal; lukewarm is nauseating.” (Spirit-Filled Bible)

Nauseating - causing a feeling of disgust, utter revulsion tending toward vomiting.

  • The Greek word used in the passage in Revelation 3 for "cold" is “psuchros” which means - cold, cool, as of cool water. This Greek word is used only four times in the Bible, three (3) times in our study text (Revelation 3) and once (1) in Matthew 10:42 -

“And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, truly I tell you, he shall in no way lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42, NKJV)

“Psuchros” gives an indication of an inherent quality.

The Greek word for cold in in Matthew 24:12 is "psucho" which means - breathe, blow, cool by blowing; to be made or grow cool or cold.

“Because iniquity will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12)

“Psucho” gives an indication of a causal effect. That is to say, an event occurred because of another event. In Matthew 24:12, the love of many waxes cold (effect) because of the abundance of iniquity (cause).

“The allusion here may be to the nearby hot and cold springs, both of which were decisively useful: the cold springs were a source of refreshment and the hot springs were used for health and hygiene. But lukewarm water was beyond disappointing; it was relatively useless. Those who are lukewarm may have just enough pretense of religion to cause them to think they are okay. However, God desires wholehearted, sincere devotion.” (New Quest Study Bible)

“Hot” may refer to the hot, medicinal waters of nearby Hierapolis; “cold” to the cool mountain streams of nearby Colossae. Aqueducts brought water from these locations to Laodicea, and it was known for being tepid by the time it arrived. The church in Laodicea was similarly “lukewarm,” supplying neither healing for the spiritually sick nor refreshment for the spiritually weary.” (NIV Study Bible Notes)

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you may see.( Revelation 3:15-18)

“Jesus tells the smug and self-satisfied members of the Laodicean church that they are essentially useless to Him. They had chosen comfort over spiritual combat, and their complacency nauseated Jesus.” (Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible)

There is nothing about us that Jesus does not know. Everything is bare before Him. The Laodicean Christians thought they were doing well but in reality they were far away from God. Their chosen path was one scripted very carefully by the devil. They may have been hot or cold previously but now they were like dung - useless, a waste of space. God has created you to be a vessel of honour in His hands. Step forward, press on and never give up.

“Sadly, the speaker's (Jesus’) knowledge reveals an unqualified condemnation of the Laodicean church—a verdict that is the exact opposite of the church's own evaluation (v.17). Their deeds were "neither cold nor hot." This expression may refer to their lack of zeal (v.19) or their uselessness, for Christ says, "I wish you were either one or the other" (lit., "either cold or hot"). There is good reason not to understand this expression as if Christ meant, "I wish you were either spiritually cold (i.e., unsaved or hostile) or spiritually hot (i.e., alive and fervent)." It is inconceivable that Christ would wish that people were spiritually cold in this sense. Furthermore, the application of "hot" and "cold" to spiritual temperature, though familiar to us, would have been foreign to first-century Christians. The two adjectives in "neither hot nor cold" should be understood together as equivalent to "lukewarmness" (v.16). That is to say, they were useless to Christ because they were complacent, self-satisfied, and indifferent to the real issues of faith in him and of discipleship.” (Expositor’s Bible Commentary)

According to Jesus, the lukewarm Christian says ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ but is really wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. In spite of their pronouncements, lukewarm Christians are spiritually naked, no armour of protection, open to affliction by the devil, an eyesore to God, and exhibiting symptoms of misery, blindness and wretchedness. The lukewarm Christian is like vomit, no use whatsoever - repulsive, sickening and a potential danger to the flock of Jesus Christ.

Are you hot, cold or lukewarm?

  1. Who is the lukewarm Christian?

Middle-of-the-road Christian who is politically correct, very diplomatic; does not want to offend anyone and so toes the line of everyone; never speaks out against evil claiming that speaking out will be judgemental; wants to be friends with everyone; is more interested in acceptability by everyone rather than standing for the truth; preaches an acceptable message instead of the truth; is very relativistic which basically means that boundaries can be extended or contracted; absoluteness is anathema (something detested or shunned). Basically the lukewarm Christian is someone who has lost his or her love for Jesus, who simply goes through the motions, is inwardly fed up with the demands of our faith, and would not mind compromising. In his or her mind, compromising a little is nothing to worry about; embracing a few worldly standards to them is not a big deal; their main focus is on status, wealth, prestige, applause and earthly connectivity. They fail to realize that we are nothing (in spite of our academic achievements, talents and abilities, good looks and status) without Jesus and that when we come to Jesus, He must be Lord and Master. He must call the shots. We either obey Jesus or place ourselves in the camp of the devil by our deliberate disobedience. We must decrease and Jesus must increase.

God gave Lucifer an opportunity to reconsider his decision to rebel against Him. But Satan was bent on rebelling against God, deceiving a third of the angels. The thought of perpetual subservience to God was just too much for him. SAD INDEED. Yet the one who is going to be used by God must surrender unconditionally to God and that means a subservient relationship because we are not and never will be mates with God.

  1. A lukewarm church is one that is apathetic and negligent about personal devotion to Christ. It is a church that is half-hearted and lazy in its service to God. Such a church compromises with worldly standards and behaviours and soon resembles its surrounding society more than it does God’s Kingdom. The people of Laodicea church claimed to be committed Christians, yet in reality they were in a spiritually “wretched” and “pitiable” condition (vv.17-18)

  2. Christ severely warns the church about his judgment against lukewarmness (vv.15-17)

  3. Christ calls the church to repent, to turn from their own way, surrender to God’s way and accept His forgiveness. Then they can be restored to a right relationship with Him (vv. 18-19)

  4. Christ knocks on the door of a lukewarm church (v.20), desiring to come in and restore His companionship and blessing with the people. To those who remain devoted and strong in their faith and are overcomers in the midst of a lukewarm church, Christ promises that they will share in His authority and ultimately reign with Him. (v. 21) (Fire Bible, ESV)

  1. What is the remedy for lukewarmness?

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 3:19-22)

  1. Repentance. We must live lives of repentance.

  2. Develop zeal for the Lord.

  3. Buy from the Lord gold refined in the fire. Seek the treasures of Heaven rather than the perishable goods of this world. Re-evaluate your thoughts, ambitions, goals in life. Where your treasure is, there your heart is also (Matthew 6:21). Your treasure cannot be on the earth and your heart in Heaven. That is an impossibility.

  4. Take your rightful place in the army of our Lord and Saviour. Assess your gifts and use them in the service of the Lord. Your service to the Lord should be your No. 1 responsibility.

  5. Remember Jesus destests lukewarmness. He said he would spew the lukewarm Christians out of His mouth. That’s equivalent to vomiting.

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold (invigorating, refreshing) nor hot (healing, therapeutic); I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm (spiritually useless), and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth [rejecting you with disgust].” (‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:15-16‬, ‭AMP‬)

God wants us to be invigorating, and refreshing at times and at other times healing and therapeutic. He frowns at lukewarmness because it represents a state at variance with God's divine plans and purposes. Examine yourself.

God Revealed

"Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as ...
