Jesus' Words on Discipleship

 Jesus' Words on Discipleship

Jesus spoke unequivocally and unambiguously about the necessity and cost of discipleship. Being a disciple of Jesus is the ultimate goal (Matthew 28:18-20) and making disciples is the supreme task. Below are some Words of Jesus on discipleship.

"Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it."(Luke 9:23-24)

"Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” "(Luke 9:57-62)

"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:26-27,33)

"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35)

"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples." (John 15:8)

"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:13-14)

"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!" (Matthew 7:21-23)

Are you a disciple of Jesus? Do you love Jesus so much that you are willing to die for Him?

NB: All Scripture passages above are taken from the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible. Meditate on the above Scriptures and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you.
